Canadian Karting League Message to Parents

From Canadian Karting League Owner RUSS BOND

http://www.canadiankartingleague.com

One of the scariest days of my life was when I watched for the first time, my daughter – who was 16 at the time – leave our house driving a car by herself for the first time. Being involved in motorsports and driving for decades, and knowing the statistics of teenage death in North America – the number one cause of death is car accidents – I was very, very nervous.

She had passed her driving test, so according to the state, she was ready to join all of us on the roads. I felt she knew the rules of the road, but not necessarily how to drive a car – what to do if something happens for instance.

This experience, believe it or not was the catalyst for the Canadian Karting League. My goal here is to teach kids how to drive. We give them their first experience behind the wheel of a motorized vehicle. We constantly work with each of our members to make them better drivers. We work with them to understand what happens when you go into a corner too fast. We work with them to understand how the braking works, how the steering works, what to look for and even how to avoid accidents.

They learn with us because it is a fun, safe environment to learn in. Yes, it’s racing, but realistically, you and I both know that very few of our members will end up as racing car drivers. But what I can guarantee you is most of them will end up driving on the roads with us. In fact, we don’t let our young members race with us until we are satisfied that they can competently handle their own kart first. We let them do as much practice as needed until they are ready to compete.

Looking back on it now, if my daughter had started ‘driving’ when she was 12 in a kart, instead of at 16 in a 3000lb car, I wouldn’t have been so nervous when she left our house for the first time.

Parents, do yourselves and your kids a huge favour…be it with CKL or someone else, get your kids some quality driving instruction before they turn 16 and join us on the roads.

This is a good video about the value of Go Karting and its relationship to better drivers. 2 parts are in this video the first near the beginning "Go Kart Kids" and again at Kenzie's Corner "Go Karting Produces Better Drivers" closer to the end...

It was noted that the Honda rules, that have been in the works for some time now, have not been published yet, but should be next week. The rules will state that the new engines now being produced cannot be used for competition purposes.
